3400 CCD Barcode
Reader with a PC.
|
As you can see from our Bar Code Reader Page, we have sold over 6,000 of these units. Many people are buying these to connect to a PC. This page is to help people get started. The information is for a guide only. We cannot be held responsible for any damage or injuries from the advice on this page. If in doubt please seek advise from a qualified engineer. If you have any information to share with us, then please contact me at zygo@btinternet.com Could anyone who is prepared to help others get started please also contact me. Q. What comes with the 3400 CCD Barcode Reader
as Standard Q. Can I connect to a PC / Computer Q. What else do I need to connect to a PC /
Computer. Q. How do I connect to a PC The Scanteam 3400 supplied by us works in RS232 mode as this is the most flexible method. So connect the RS232 lead into the COM port. Now connect 5V and Gnd to the circular D
Connector |
Q. How do I get 5V and Gnd to the circular D
Connector
A. There are four ways
1. Use an external Power Supply (We
have genuine Welch Allyn Power
Supplies in stock)
2. Use a lead that takes 5V DC from the Keyboard.
This lead simply plugs between the Keyboard and the computer and has an
additional plug that connects to the Bar Code Reader.
3. Use our
USB Port Power Lead that will supply
5V from spare USB Port.
4. Use our Battery Pack. This allows you to run the
Barcode reader without a Power Supply. Batteries are not cheap and don't last
forever, so unless this is your only option consider options 1 to 3
first.
Q. What else do I need to do to the Bar Code Reader
A. The Bar
Code Reader is extremely flexible and there are many options that can be
programmed.
See below for programming the Bar Code Reader.
With most programs like Access, Excel or Word a simple VB program will get you under way. If you can write in VB (Visual Basic or WordBasic) then our Sample Prog will be all you need to get going.
Down load vbdemo.zip This will work with Visual Basic 5 ( VB5 ) & Visual Basic 6 ( VB6 )
Down load BarcodeDemo.xls This will work with EXCEL, is
demonstrates how to Read a Barcode from the Com Port ( RS232 ) to a cell within
Excel.
Q. Why does my Trigger Button stop
working
A. Intermittent trigger operation can be the trigger button itself.
But this is not the most likely problem. More likely is powering up the Barcode
Reader and then connecting to RS232 to PC or connecting scope or volt meter to
Pins etc. or bad power supply. Connect the RS232 connector before powering
up.
Q. How can I print Code 39 Barcodes in Word, Excel and other
applications
A. There are a few programs on the Internet, just type
shareware barcodes in your favourite search engine. I recommend
http://carolinabarcode.com This
program is simple to use.
Download the Demo program from their
site. then just type the Barcode number in your favorite application, Select
the number you just typed and change the font in the normal way to a barcode
font.
(If you are using Word then remember to turn off
Autoformat as explained on the Carolina Barcode website).
If you like the program you just need to
pay them USD 29.00
| Tip for WINDOWS USERS |
| Using the com port as explained on this page allows the Barcode
Reader to send information direct to a particular application In Windows you can also make the Bar Code reader act like a keyboard ( Keyboard Wedge). This means when you press the trigger it sends the Barcode to the current application, just like typing it in For WINDOWS 2000 Go Start, Settings, Control Panel, Accessibility, General, Tick Support Serial Devices then click Settings, select Com Port, Normally Com1 (But if not try others) then select 9600 from Baud Rate Drop Down Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 9,8 Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition. http://www.microsoft.com/enable/training/windows98/serialkeys.htm http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q260517& Thanks Brendan for sharing this information with us |
